John Farrelly told HeadStuff that writing An Taibhse in Irish came first, as a choice connected to its period and setting. The film’s status as a first emerged during production.

He also connected its isolated house to lockdown: characters confined through winter, unable to leave easily.

Livvy Hill and Tom Kerrisk play Máire and Éamon. These frames move between the winter landscape and the interiors in which their story unfolds.
